When it comes to growing and maintaining quality IB knowledge, there is no magic recipe but a combination of solutions.
Practically speaking, there are only four ways to register a product to its location and owner.
Asset tracking
Whether with add-on trackers or built-in geolocation devices, it is possible to use coordinates to detect an asset end-location and identify its owner.
The limitations to the tracking approach are mostly related to the size of the tracked asset and the presence of adequate cavities to lodge a device.
Field capture
It works well for assets and sites that are surveyed frequently by field engineers, especially when they’re equipped with the tools enabling rapid capture and correct assignment to a site.
However for smaller assets or assets integrated in a larger system, the method is far less efficient.
Owner declaration
One of the most common approaches is to encourage owners to declare their assets upon reception to activate the warranty period.
Yet, there is a limit to its efficacy, most likely because targeting the right persons inside the company who can and want to do it is very difficult.
Channel and integrators data sharing
As most products are sold through a diversity of channels, manufacturers make sure to maintain dynamic and beneficial relationships with their resellers to be able to collect ownership information.
