Frequently Asked Questions

Product & Technical FAQs

Wisechain is an industrial asset installed base visibility growth platform, purpose-built for manufacturers of high-value equipment such as drives, breakers, power transformers, robots, generators or compressors.

Wisechain enables the detection of equipment final location, registration of machine ownership, and monitoring of transport and storage conditions. Data is processed via Wisechain’s AI-powered backend (Heroku) and made directly available inside Salesforce to accelerate service sales and field service activities. It can easily be synchronized with installed base master data solutions with middleware such as Mulesoft or Talend.

Wisechain tracker and sensors can capture and transmit the following types of data:

  • Geolocation: via GPS, WiFi, or mobile tower triangulation

  • Shock / G-force: to detect incidents during transport or handling

  • Ambien Temperature: to understand shipment and operating context

  • Relative Humidity: via BLE sensors, to protect warranty integrity

  • Pressure: via industrial, high performance BLE sensors, to monitor performance and stress accumulation

  • Movement & Immobilization Detection: to identify delivery and final placement

No. Wisechain devices are designed for passive data logging. They are mounted inside unused cavities, control boxes, or externally on structural components without impacting performance or violating certifications.

Yes. Wisechain offers explosion-proof (ATEX-rated) tracking solutions for use in Oil & Gas, Chemical, or Marine environments.

Tracking devices and monitoring sensors can be ordered in ATEX rated versions

Battery life ranges from 2 to 10 years depending on the transmission interval (e.g. 1 ping/hour vs. 1 ping/day). Devices can also be retrieved post-deployment and reused.

Yes. While the system is Salesforce-native by default, Wisechain provides API-based access to synchronize with SAP, Oracle, or any custom install base system.

Installation & Deployment FAQs

Devices and sensors can be installed:

  • At the factory before shipment

  • During machine retrofit or overhaul service

  • At commissioning sites or by system integrators

Pairing is performed using a mobile app that scans the machine serial number and the device ID. This pairing is logged directly into Salesforce or another designated system.

Yes. Through two methods:

  1. Tracking new assets leads to discovering similar, unregistered legacy assets located at the same site
  2. Field engineers can use Wisechain’s Field Capture app to register older assets’ serial numbers

Yes. Movement, stops, and condition changes (shock, humidity) are logged along the shipment journey, allowing full traceability from factory to site.

Yes. Wisechain supports Salesforce Community Portals, enabling end users or OEM clients to view delivery status, shipment conditions, and project asset assignments.

Legal & Compliance FAQs

Yes. Wisechain tracks only non-personal data related to equipment location and status. It does not process or store any personal identifiers.

No direct customer consent is required to implement asset tracking and installed base visibility automation.

Manufacturers’ in-house counsels and Wisechain systematically recommend offering a clear, publicly available opt-out policy (e.g., via product documentation or an online form) for transparency.

Yes. Wisechain provides automated asset destination documentation, helping manufacturers demonstrate product location and owner identity in accordance with export regulations.

Wisechain can also roll-back the ownership trail to help identify possible routes taken by products found in sanctioned regions.

In most cases: No.

Wisechain collects data before and up to the moment of installation of industrial equipment (e.g., robots, transformers, drives). This includes:

  • Location (via GPS, GSM or WiFi)

  • Environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, shock, pressure)

  • Installation status (e.g., commissioned or not)

These are logistics and deployment-related data, not data generated by active use of the product by the end customer.

Therefore, they fall outside the scope of the Data Act, which only applies to:

“Data generated by the actual use of a connected product or related service.”
— Article 3, EU Data Act

Wisechain is not subject to UL 2900 certification due to its architectural nature.

UL 2900 applies primarily to network-connected, programmable systems with active interfaces to machine control or safety functions, such as PLCs, HMIs, smart sensors, or SCADA-connected controllers.

Wisechain’s tracking devices and sensors

  • Are non-programmable and cannot be reconfigured remotely

  • Operate independently of the machine they’re mounted on

  • Emit only environmental and telemetry data (e.g., coordinates, shock, temperature)

  • Have no interaction with local networks or customer systems

The data processing backend, hosted on Heroku, is entirely decoupled from the customer’s operational infrastructure. Telemetry remains anonymous until paired in the client’s Salesforce CRM, which Wisechain never accesses.

By design, UL 2900 does not apply to Wisechain.

However, Wisechain follows strict security-by-design practices, including:

  • AES-256 encryption from tracker to cloud gateway

  • API authentication and message validation at all backend layers

  • Data separation with Device ID being processed independently from machine Serial Numbers that are kept only inside Salesforce
  • OAuth-secured Salesforce integration
  • No software installed on customer infrastructure, eliminating lateral risks

This approach ensures Wisechain is suitable for secure, IT-sensitive environments without needing UL 2900 certification. for connected systems, Wisechain can be deployed in a “read-only telemetry” configuration, aligning with the security posture expected for UL 2900 environments.

Commercial & ROI FAQs

Wisechain typically offers a bundled model: a one-off payment per tracked asset covering 1 year of service (hardware, data plan, platform access) followed by quarterly subscription to the connectivity and platform access that can be cancelled at any moment when the asset is registered to its final owner.

Alternatively, annual subscription plans are available for longer durations, especially when long term traceability is necessary for circularity and export compliance

High level ROI is driven by increased visibility, leading to:

  • Increased service coverage of the yearly equipment production

  • Increased service contract penetration

  • Increased cross selling opportunities with digital services

  • Spare parts and consumables upselling

  • Asset Modernization offers for uncovered legacy equipment

  • Automated warranty enforcement

  • Opportunity creation inside Salesforce tied to verified assets

No. Most clients start by tracking 5% to 10% of outbound shipments. This often reveals unknown legacy assets, generates actionable sales leads, or strengthens warranty enforcement.

Yes. Wisechain can operate in two models:

  1. Embedded lead generation — As part of asset tracking and installed base visibility, Wisechain automatically identifies unknown owners and locations of deployed machines, triggering service sales opportunities in Salesforce. This is the embedded approach.

  2. Dedicated lead generation service – Wisechain can offer a “pay-per-lead” model: you install trackers on shipped assets, and Wisechain charges only when a new customer, site, or opportunity is registered as a lead inside your CRM. This zero-effort model is ideal for manufacturers with large outbound volumes and limited downstream visibility.

Platform & Salesforce Integration FAQs

Yes. Wisechain installs as a managed Salesforce package. It uses custom objects for assets, detections, positions, and links these to accounts, opportunities, cases, or service tasks.

Wisechain can:

  • Automatically assign assets to Accounts or Sites

  • Trigger new Cases, Tasks, or Service Opportunities

  • Create warranty start events based on movement/delivery detection

  • Provide visual maps of asset clusters and movement trails

Yes. Wisechain integrates directly with Field Service solutions such as ServiceMax, ServiceNow and Salesforce Field Service, always via the Salesforce platform, to inform technician routing, site preparation, asset availability, and post-delivery actions.

Yes. While optimized for Salesforce, Wisechain can export data to other CRM, ERP, or IB systems via API or secure batch export.
